SESSIONS
DESCRIPTION
STATUS
Governments publish gazettes for the purpose of notifying the actions and decisions of the government.
Gazettes contain some surprising information which can be of interest to family historians:
- Public Service vacancies, appointments and promotions
- government tenders
- land notices: acquisition, disposal and transfers of property, leases granted
- lists of awards, honours, medals
- private notices of a legal nature e.g. bankruptcies, company registrations and windings-up, probate, by-laws of companies under royal charter
- registers of medical professionals
- and more
Join Ian Simon and Tony Turner over lunch to discuss the mulitude of gems that can be found in these documents.
Bring along your examples to add to the information.
NOTE: this is an online session.
