Antonio Caldara - a Venetian composer - is certainly one the most intriguing composers from the Baroque time. With his very moving harmonies, suffused with fascinating modulations, Caldara was one of the most virtuosic musical forces in the world at the time. Of all the Italian Baroque masters, it is Caldara who most resembles J.S. Bach. His Stabat Mater for five voices, 2 sackbuts & strings, which will be performed at this concert, can only be described as an absolute masterpiece.
