DETAILS: Human libraries use the art of storytelling to break down barriers and encourage acceptance and empathy. They do this by providing a comfortable space for ‘readers’ to speak informally with a human ‘book’. Our ‘books’ are Tasmanians who have encountered stereotyping, prejudice or discrimination as a result of their culture, religion, refugee background, gender, sexual orientation or physical or mental ability.
At this event you will experience the Hobart Human Library workshop exactly as it is run for workplaces, conferences and schools. For workplaces, the human library can be a key component of diversity and inclusion training.
"We invited the Human Library to our leadership conference and out of the overwhelming support and connection that our Leaders had with the 'books', we all had a sense of urgency to introduce this to our organisation as we had just launched our diversity policy. Personally, I was touched by the stories and they have stayed with me even now. I know our people will also be personally touched and it will open a dialogue that will be based on respect and positive interactions in our workplace."
