What to expect…
Before your appointment
Once you’ve made and paid for your appointment, we’ll send you an information pack to help you prepare.
To make the most out of your appointment, make sure you complete the forms we send you and have them with you at your appointment.
If you have any questions about the forms, don’t wait until your Wesley Wills Day to get help. Contact us using the details at the bottom of this page – we’re happy to help!
At your appointment
Your appointment will be 30 minutes.
One of the solicitors will contact you and discuss the responses you’ve provided in your completed forms. This helps ensure your intentions are accurately reflected in your Will.
After your appointment
The solicitor will use your instructions to prepare/update your Will.
When your Will is ready, they will contact you to arrange for your documents to be signed and witnessed. Where possible we recommend meeting at the solicitor’s offices for this final step. If Public Health Orders prevent this, the solicitor will assist you with alternative ways.
What to have with you at your appointment
• At least two identification documents.
– These are an essential requirement from our solicitors. Without them, your appointment may be postponed or cancelled.
– Your driver's licence and Medicare card are the preferred identification documents, but you can also use your passport, birth certificate and/or marriage certificate.
• Your current Will (if you have one that you want to be updated).
– There may be relevant information in it that can be brought into your new Will.
• Details of the people you’re appointing as Powers of Attorney and/or Enduring Guardianship.
– You’ll need their legal names, current residential addresses and current occupations.
• Your client instruction form.
– This is part of what will be sent to you.
– The solicitor uses this information to prepare your Will. This form remains confidential between you and the solicitor.
*Complex Wills
Some Wills are more complex than others to prepare and could take longer than expected for our volunteer solicitors to complete.
These include Wills that include family trust accounts or provide for blended families. For example, if you and/or your spouse have children from a previous partner or partners.
If your Will is going to be complex, our solicitors will be happy to assess your situation and provide a competitive estimate on how much extra it will cost to prepare your Will.
Your solicitor will take your payment to Wesley Mission into account when preparing your quote.
You’ll need to pay the balance to the law firm when you sign your documents at the end of the process. If payment is not received at the time your final documents are signed, your solicitor will not be able to release your documents prepared at your Wesley Wills Day service
A note for couples
It’s common for couples to meet with the solicitor at the same appointment, but you can also make separate appointments if you prefer.
If it is not possible for you both to attend the consultation, the solicitor can still take instructions to prepare your Wills, as long as the attending partner has both sets of Client Instruction Forms.
If you choose to have your Will prepared as a couple, the cost will be $95 per person.
