Life Saving Victoria announces it's final Blue Connections event for 2021!
Session: Discovering Resilience
Keynote Speaker: Martin Heppell - Partner & Facilitator, The Resilience Project
Date: Thursday 4th November 2021
Time: 6:30pm to 8pm online via Zoom
Please note:
While we are disappointed that we cannot hold this event in person, the health and safety of our staff and guests remains the priority. We explored alternative options and reviewed the risks of each of these. After much consideration, delivering an online session was deemed the safest and most appropriate way of proceeding.
After most sessions a recording will be available at the corresponding links. In some cases a presentation will be available and/or in other cases no resources will be made available after the events – depending on individual session circumstances.
Session Overview
Blue Connections is gearing up to deliver its final event for 2021. Following a challenging year and as we look towards a unique summer season ahead, it is fitting that we wrap up with The Resilience Project!
We are incredibly excited to welcome back our friend and supporter, Martin Heppell – Partner and facilitator @ TRP to present Discovering Resilience.
Martin’s session will be based on the following three strategies:
- Gratitude - Appreciating what you have, not focusing on what you don’t.
- Empathy - Thinking of the needs of others and the importance of kindness.
- Mindfulness - Being present in the moment, not becoming distracted by unhelpful or negative thoughts.
We look forward to welcoming you and your teams to connect, share and reset for 2022.

Meet Martin
Martin’s background is unique. He spent a considerable amount of time growing up in Borneo living with a Dayak headhunting tribe. He was also educated in different parts of South East Asia and has been heavily influenced by the morals and values that he and his family were immersed in whilst living with the Dayaks.
After finishing high school in Melbourne, Martin spent 6 years in the AFL and SANFL systems playing for the St Kilda, Melbourne and Norwood Football Clubs. Following this, he travelled the world backpacking for nearly 3 years. Upon return to Australia, Martin studied primary teaching at Melbourne University. After completing his degree, he taught 1/2 and 5/6 year levels for 4 years before being promoted to Assistant Principal at Auburn Primary, where he focused on Student Wellbeing, Educational Leadership and Change Management.
After 4 years as Assistant Principal, he joined The Resilience Project. Since 2016, he has conducted over 1,700 presentations across Australia to key stakeholders at schools and their communities, corporations and elite sporting organisations including the AFL, NRL and the A-League. He is currently working with the Hawthorn Football Club.
He especially enjoys situations that present challenges and require an optimistic focus to address. He is passionate about children being raised in a supportive and encouraging environment that evokes self-confidence and a zest for life. His presentations are original and energetic.
