Conductor - Michael Milton
Flute - Samantha Hennessy
Harp - Philippa McAuliffe
Join us for a celebration of freedom and happiness in Brahms's Symphony No. 3, whose bold opening chords are built around the German composer's personal motto 'frei aber froh' ('free but happy'). On hearing the symphony for the first time, Dvořák remarked 'without exaggerating that this work surpasses his first two symphonies; if not, perhaps, in grandeur and powerful conception—then certainly in—beauty.' We will also be treated to Sibelius's rousing tone poem Finlandia and not one, but two soloists in Mozart's beautiful Concerto for Flute and Harp in C major.
Session time: 2.30pm, Sunday 11 September 2022
Duration: approx. 2 hour, with interval
Ticket prices: adult $20, concession $15, children (17 and under) free, group (8+) discount of 20% available online
