Poetry Workshops- writing and performance
'Jason created such a safe and encouraging environment, with plenty of mic practice. My anxieties really melted, enabling me to feel more confident to perform than ever before.' – Robyn
April 2nd: Writing Workshop (11am-2pm)
AImed at beginners but all are welcome, with a big emphasis on doing poetry rather than theory.
Start from scratch, or bring bits and pieces along- all kinds of poets and poems are welcome! You will be invited to share your works in progress with each other.
April 9th: Performance Workshop (11am-2pm)
Bring your poem drafts, or even someone else’s poem that really moves you, and practise performing them together, with an opportunity for re-editing, reworking movements etc. A safe space to chip away at microphone-phobia. This may be a springboard to performing at the Poetry Slam at the June Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival, or the more laid back Open Mic. Whether this is your firest or fiftieth time performing, you're very welcome!
Important information about BOTH workshops:
There may be mature, challenging content, and participants will need to be mature enough to be able to care for their own emotional needs as far as possible, or contact a support person. Participants need to be 15+, and if under 18 have a guardian contact Jason (see below).
Both workshops facilitated by Jason John, the MC for the Bello Poetry Slam.
