Meet The Author: Geraldine Brooks (SOLD OUT)
It is our absolute pleasure to invite you to join us in hearing best-selling author of The Secret Chord, Year of Wonders and People of the Book Geraldine Brooks discussing her amazing new novel, Horse, with Matilda Bookshop's Molly Murn. We will be hosting Geraldine, in association with Burnside Library, at 7pm on Thursday July 28th at the Burnside Ballroom. Don't miss out on what will be a very special evening.
A discarded painting in a roadside clean-up, forgotten bones in a research archive, and Lexington, the greatest racehorse in US history. From these strands of fact, Geraldine Brooks weaves an encompassing story of spirit, obsession and injustice across American history. Horse is a vivid and unique new novel for lovers of sweeping historical fiction. With the moral complexity of March and a braided narrative reminiscent of People of the Book, this enthralling novel is a gripping reckoning with the legacy of enslavement and racism in America. Horse is the latest masterpiece from a writer with a prodigious talent for bringing the past to life.
Australian-born Geraldine Brooks is an author and journalist who grew up in Sydney's western suburbs. She worked for the Sydney Morning Herald and in 1982 she won the Greg Shackleton Scholarship to the journalism masters program at Columbia University. Later she worked for the Wall Street Journal, where she covered crises in the Middle East, Africa and the Balkans. In 2006 she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in fiction for her novel March. Her novels Caleb's Crossing, People of the Book and The Secret Chord were New York Times bestsellers, and Year of Wonders is an international bestseller, translated into more than 25 languages.
Tickets are $12 or you can purchase Ticket + Hardback Book for $40 (Horse is normally $40 on its own) with the book to be collected at the event. Horse will be on sale for the night for $40.
