Rare Book Week - Erasmus and the Bible

Known as the ‘Prince of the Humanists’, Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam (1466-1536) is one of the leading figures of the Renaissance. His many works include On Free Will and In Praise of Folly, and his Greek and Latin translations of the New Testament influenced translations into vernacular German and English, laying the foundations for the Protestant Reformation. This interactive exhibition will showcase early editions of Erasmus’ works held in the Moore College Library, including his Paraphrases of the New Testament (1548/1551), his edition of St Augustine’s Works (1555) and our 1550 New Testament with Erasmus’ Latin alongside Tyndale’s English.

Location : Library Amphitheatre, Moore College 1 King St

Date : Tuesday 25th October, 6pm-7pm

Cost: Free. RSVP required.
(Space is limited to 20 people. Please advise the organiser if you are unable to make it on the day to allow others to attend. )
