This dinner is a fundraiser for Open Eyes Global. Every year 8,000 children worldwide develop retinoblastoma, an eye cancer that is treatable, but potentially deadly. Survival rates in Australia are high, but the same is not true in Nepal, where late diagnosis can result in the death of boys and girls as young as two years old. Infants and young children who survive the disease will often lose one or both eyes, which can create lifelong impediments to health and wellbeing. In 2018, a passionate group of Queenslanders formed the charity Open Eyes Global, taking on a mission to provide urgent funding to help these children survive and thrive through early detection, timely treatment, and visionary care.
