THREE AGES (1923)
Three Ages (1923), with live music (Mauro Colombis).
65 minutes.
A brilliant historical satire teeming with inventive flourishes, Buster Keaton’s film is a comedy of truly epic proportions. This clever parody of Griffith's Intolerance follows Buster's hard-luck romantic adventures throughout world history: from the dawn of man in the Stone Age, through the gladiatorial arenas of Ancient Rome, to the city streets of the American Jazz Era.
The first of the independent feature-length comedies…..illustrates the unchanging troubles and triumphs of love as they might have appeared in the Stone Age, in classical Rome and as they were in 1923. A beautifully conceived and executed treat!
