Canterbury Junior Chess Sunday Series 2026
About
Organised by the Canterbury Chess Club and sponsored by chess ventures (chessventures.co.nz) - thanks to our sponsor!A fast-paced competition for juniors with 6 rounds over an afternoon, played with clocks and officially rated by the New Zealand Chess Federation - perfect prep for the interschool competitions! Start arriving from 12pm, games start at 1pm, finish at approx. 5pm (prizegiving follows the last game). Medals and certificates for the top 3 players, and some books and other prizes as well (including a spot prize - must be at prizegiving to win the spot prize). Players must be born in 2008 or later to play.
Entries are limited to 31, first in, first served, so get in quick! If/when an event has reached the entry limit, the waiting list is enabled, so fill in your/your child's details anyway, and Trybooking will email if a place becomes available e.g. after a withdrawal. Individual dates are set up as session times so you/your child can sign up for one or more competitions throughout the year.
It is a requirement of the New Zealand Chess Federation that players in rated (sanctioned) competitions like these must be members of the NZCF - please answer the relevant question in the form. If you/your child is not a member of the NZCF, the Canterbury Chess Club will arrange this through the club at no additional cost (there are some questions in the registration form around this).
https://sites.google.com/view/canterburyjuniorsundayseries has more information. NB: in addition to the usual details, this form requires the player's NZCF ID which can be found here: https://newzealandchess.co.nz/new-zealand-ratings-list/
For players without NZCF IDs (new to rated chess usually), please enter their date of birth or gender at the relevant questions.
Payment is by credit card (no additional fees).
To withdraw, please email the organiser before the day of the competition and request either a refund or transfer the booking to later tournament in the series.
