The year 13 Drama class (along with a sprinkling of year 12s, an 11 and a few talented 10s) performs “Lysander's Aunty” on Sunday 14 and Monday 15 June, 2026.Written by kiwi playwright, Ralph McCubbin Howell, and set in New Zealand, outside of real time, this play centres around Lysander's Aunty.
In Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", young lovers Lysander and Hermia defy the Duke by eloping to an aunt’s house in the woods.
But who is this law-snubbing, free-loving aunty? What’s she doing in the bush? And what happens when the law comes knocking at her door?
From the makers of "The Bookbinder", and in the tradition of "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead", comes this reworking of Shakespeare’s most popular play, that takes a cannon to the canon. Jumping from Athens to Aotearoa, and pentameter to prose, Lysander’s Aunty is a wild ride of magic and mutiny.
