Living Fences Workshop
About
Discover how to create, living fences using basket willow.In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to establish a living willow fence from cuttings, including site selection, preparation, planting techniques, weaving methods and ongoing care. Living fences can be used to define spaces, provide shelter, stabilise slopes, create a source for ongoing harvest and add a unique sculptural element to the landscape.
Together we will create two permanent living fence projects at Titirangi Rudolf Steiner School. By contributing to these projects, participants will gain practical experience they can apply at home.
Participants will receive:
A practical introduction to designing and constructing living willow fences.
Hands-on experience creating a permanent installation at the school.
Guidance on selecting, planting and caring for basket willow.
A bundle of willow cuttings to take home so you can start propagating your own willow project.
The workshop is limited to 20 participants and will run from 9am-3pm.
Please bring your own lunch and morning tea.
The workshop will run rain or shine, please wear appropriate clothing for the weather and bring gloves.
About your facilitator: Guenther Andraschko is a Permaculture NZ-affiliated teacher, and is lead facilitator for the Matakana Permaculture Design Course. Guenther has facilitated Permaculture Design Courses for many years around New Zealand, including Northland, Coromandel and the South Island.
Not only is he an experienced workshop facilitator, Guenther is also a professional permaculture landscape designer with over 25 years’ experience in designing outdoor environments utilising permaculture ethics & principles. Guenther brings a wealth of practical knowledge and experience to trainings and enjoys supporting others to realise their own resilient living projects and aspirations.
