Discovering an opera for the first time can often be the beginning of a lifelong love. Carl Maria von Weber's 'The Devil's Marksman' ("Der Freischütz") is one such opera. First performed 200 years ago, it has been the most performed German Romantic Opera in history, and the opera with which generations of central European parents have introduced opera to their children. Based on a Grimm-Brothers-like folktale about good and evil, magic bullets and supernatural events.
