The year 12 and 13 Drama class performs “Larnach” Sunday 17 and Monday 18 August, 2025.Written by kiwi playwright, Michelanna Forster, and set in 1880s New Zealand, this play tells the true story of William Larnach: the man who built Dunedin's famous Larnach Castle.
William Larnach had built an economic and political empire in colonial New Zealand, with a showcase castle at its centre. Why did he end his own life so tragically? Was it his latest financial failure – or was it not despair at all, but revenge on his own family? A period potboiler about an aging patriarch and his treacherous family living in “a castle of lies”.
