Cambridge Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Waipā District Council is funding this free household hazardous waste collection event to give local residents a safe and responsible way to dispose of unwanted household hazardous waste.

Who is this event for?

This event is for residential householders in the Waipā District. Businesses, farms, growers, contractors and other organisations are not eligible for this council-funded event. For commercial chemical collection and disposal, please contact ChemCollect.

Bookings are essential

No registration = no entry.

Bookings will open on Friday 25 September 2026 and close on Sunday 25 October 2026. Places are limited, so bookings will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. When booking, please register all the hazardous waste you intend to bring with you. Only materials that have been registered and meet the event's acceptance criteria can be received.

What can I bring?

Please check the list below before registering your waste. All materials will be inspected by 3R Group Ltd when you arrive. Materials that do not meet the event's acceptance criteria may be refused.

Accepted items include: Household cleaners, Garden chemicals, Insecticides, Automotive waste, including motor oil, antifreeze, brake fluid and fuel, Pool chemicals, Chlorine, Paints, Solvents, Poisons, Batteries, including automotive batteries

We cannot accept: Asbestos, LPG gas cylinders, E-waste, Pharmaceuticals, Explosives, Light bulbs, Mobile phones, Cooking oil, Fertilisers

Safe transport

Hazardous materials should be transported carefully and securely. Where possible, keep containers upright and place them in a suitable bunded or leak-proof container to help prevent spills. If you're unsure whether an item can be safely transported, please contact MyHazWaste before travelling.

What happens at the event?

When you arrive, please follow the directions of Waipā District Council and 3R Group staff. 3R staff will collect your registered materials from your vehicle and manage them through the appropriate hazardous waste handling, transport and disposal processes.

Important information

Please only bring materials that you have registered and that are listed as accepted for this event. 3R Group Ltd reserves the right to refuse any materials that do not meet the event's acceptance criteria. Please do not bring additional or unregistered materials, as these may be refused.
