    This course is about the different types of plastics, their properties and chemical composition with a focus on the environmental impacts. It includes a range of practical experiments.   • Wednesday 17 February 2021
    A senior physics course covering time, distance, speed, velocity and acceleration around the topical theme of self-driving cars. Good knowledge of basic physics concepts and maths recommended.     During this fun hands-on course students will learn about atoms and the periodic table and build a series of molecules. They will be sent a Molymod molecular building kit which they can keep for a few weeks and then send back. This course is suitable for ages 10-13.     Mixtures is a chemistry unit requiring no specific prerequisite knowledge. Students will learn about mixtures vs pure substances, suspensions and colloids, solutions and concentration and saturated and unsaturated solutions.     Students will be sent an equipment pack on loan to carry out experiments using a wind turbine. They will investigate three different variables with regards to the turbine blades. This is a great unit to prepare for year 11/12 scientific investigation assessments (NCEA/Cambridge).     During this fun hands-on course students will make their own electricity project. Most materials are supplied, except for two AA batteries.   • Between Saturday 27 March 2021 and Friday 16 April 2021
    Students will learn what current, voltage and resistance are, followed by Ohm's law. It is at year 11 physics level. An on-loan equipment pack will be sent out for the practical component.
