  • Tuesday 27 October 2020
    During this fun hands-on course students will make their own electricity project. Most materials are supplied, except for two AA batteries.   • Monday 9 November 2020
    This course covers ions, ionic compounds, solubility rules and precipitations reactions. A basic understanding of atoms and chemical reactions is recommended.   • Tuesday 10 November 2020
    During this fun hands-on course students will learn about atoms and the periodic table and build a series of molecules. They will be sent a Molymod molecular building kit which they can keep for a few weeks and then send back. Max of 10 students per class. This course is suitable for ages 10-13.   • Saturday 14 November 2020
    Students will learn what current, voltage and resistance are, followed by Ohm's law. It is at year 11 physics level. An on-loan equipment pack will be sent out for the practical component.   • Saturday 14 November 2020
    Students will be sent an equipment pack on loan to carry out experiments using a wind turbine. They will investigate three different variables with regards to the turbine blades. This is a great unit to prepare for year 11/12 scientific investigation assessments (NCEA/Cambridge).   • The Waihi mine educational officer offers a 2-hour programme where the students get to do lots of hands-on activities while learning about the Waihi mine where mainly gold and silver are produced. In addition to this educational session there is a one-hour visit to Spike’s bricks and models. Spike has a huge display of lego, more than 4 large rooms full, as well as an interactive RC lego cars activity. Cost: $8 pp for ages 6 and up including adults Free for children under 6
