Riversdale Arts runs a series of workshops during our exhibition period each July as well as other times during the year from our Art Rooms situated in Newcastle Street Riversdale.
Pottery Christmas Ornaments, Afternoon Session
Sunday 17 November 2024
Led by pottery artist & Riversdale Arts member Kerryn Miller. Hand-build a Christmas tree/bell ornament to hang on your Christmas tree or at your door, decorate it in your favourite colours. Your trees will be dried and fired in the kiln, and a final clear gloss glaze. Items will be ready to pick up before Christmas.

Mixed Media Exploration

Led by Riversdale Arts President Lois Bishop. Join this class for an exploration in mixed media, utilising a variety of materials to create artworks & learn techniques such as collage, fluid paint & medium combinations.
"Don't feel the need to go out and purchase supplies, bring what you have. There will be bits to borrow and share."
Bring along the resources you would like to work with: paint brushes, pencils, pencil sharpener, eraser, colour pencils, charcoal, crayons, pastels, sketch book, scissors, ruler. Any found objects such as: old buttons, mesh, bailing twine, corrugated cardboard, old wall paper, coloured tissue, eg florist wrap, brown paper bag.
*Tea & coffee, paint supplied.
There will be time for a short break to have your own snacks/lunch.

Andrea will teach you her creative secrets during this workshop, and you will
create your own adorable snake plant, cactus, or succulent. You will learn the art
of simple pattern making, applied design, 3-D forming, and stitching. These
techniques can be applied to a plethora of art-making! This workshop is suitable
for both skilled and beginning artists.
Please bring your sewing machine & little plant pots or teacups for your piece.
There will be a 30min intermission for lunch, cafe facilities are available at the Riversdale Arts Exhibition.

Perfect the skills of Watercolour with local master of the style, Crosbie Grieve. Suitable for beginners to advanced, the class is the opportunity to experiment with techniques, play with colours & light, & enjoy the full day workshop crafting your own artwork.
A limited supply of brushes & paints are available, please refer to the below for a list of materials you will need to bring along on the day.
Participants will need the following:
1. Sketch pad
2. HB Pencil and Rubber
3. Board (Can be ply, hard board, glass etc) Approximately 400mm x 300mm
4. Brushes: At least a #8 round. And any other watercolour brushes they have
5. Paint: Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Burnt Sienna,
Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow, Paynes Grey
6. Paper: 300gm Cold pressed 100% cotton. At least 3 or 4 x 200mm x 300mm sheets.
7. A palette. Can be a white porcelain plate.
8. Two water containers.
9. A roll of masking tape.

Riversdale Arts 51st Mixed Media Exhibition Gala Evening

Celebrating its 51st exhibition this year, Riversdale Arts Inc. collaborates with national & local artists from within NZ to host our large annual Mixed Media Exhibition. A festival of activities runs alongside the Exhibition, including artist-led workshops, an Emerging Artist award, a community school exhibition space, Country Manor pop up café, & Giftshop stocked with artists' bespoke pieces.
The Gala Evening opens the Exhibition, & is the premier opportunity to purchase, mingle, & meet the featuring Artists.
Motueka based Guest Artist, Linda Hannan showcases her effervescent, contemporary realist landscapes in oils, to celebrate this years theme, 'Our Natural Environment'.
Emerging Southland Artist of 2024 will be awarded on the evening, along with a silent auction of committee pieces.

In this workshop participants will make Kokedama Balls - Kokedama, translated “moss ball,” is a Japanese form of garden art. Simple yet elegant, it's made by wrapping a plant's roots with soil, sphagnum moss and string. Participants will need to bring their own succulent-style plants to use. You will make 2-3 balls.
