Makuri School Horse Trek Fundraiser 2nd & 3rd March 2024
About
Makuri School is a sole-charge rural school with 19 students ranging from Y0 – Y8. The money raised from this trek is used to employ a second, part-time, BOT funded teacher to ensure the best possible outcomes for all our students.Your ride will cover farmland, climbing up the Puketoi Range to enjoy expansive views. The Makuri community love sharing our piece of paradise with the rest of the world. We pride ourselves on being fantastic hosts.

PROGRAMME
Numbers will be limted to 50 riders.
Riders must be 18 years or above.
Entries close on 25 Febuary or when we reach 50 riders.

RIDER BRIEFING
- A rider briefing will be held on horse back after breakfast each day. All riders must attend.
HORSES AND RIDING
- The riding will be walking pace only along good tracks and ridge tops. We will split into a fast and a slower group. Some road riding may be required. Level 3. Medium Grade. Bulldozed tracks and open hill country with creek and river crossings. We will split our riders into a fast group and a slower group.
- Horses will need to be ‘hill fit’ as there will be some steep climbs.
- No Stallions permitted on the Trek.
HOSPITALITY
- Delicious meals provided Friday night thru to Sunday Lunch.
- Showers provided.
- This is a BYO event.
SAFETY AND OTHER INFORMATION
- No dogs
- If your horse kicks or doesn’t like being followed closely, please put a red ribbon on its tail.
- Keep a safe distance from other horses.
- No alcohol to be consumed whilst riding
- Horse paddocks aren’t to be accessed after dark.
- Shared grassed paddocks or sheep and cattle yards are avaiable. No tape allowed.
- Use good trekking manners; ensure your gear is well secured to your saddle, your horse is tied up at lunch stops and please don’t crowd the gateways.
WHAT TO BRING
- Camping set up- tent/truck etc
- Wet weather gear & warm clothes
- Water bottle
- Plates, cups and Utensils for meals.
- Torch
- Your own saddlery and saddle bag
- Feed for your horse
Halter, Rope and String to tie your horse up at lunch stops - Wine/Beer or whatever you like to sip as there is no supplied bar, it is BYO all weekend
- Your own wine glass/ tumbler or whatever you drink from.
