Join Michael Clark (MSW), author of Motivational Interviewing with Offenders: Engagement, Rehabilitation and Reentry for a one-day practical workshop suitable for Corrections workers and any anyone who works with people who have not voluntarily connected with you or your service.
Tune-up existing skills, test-drive some new ones, and share with others who are also interested in what new efforts can help.
Practice MI-informed strategies to improve our effectiveness as individuals, teams and as a system, in working with people who offend.
OUTLINE
Module 1:
• New research - new pathways: Examine what we know about the evidence base and where we are currently located
Module 2:
• Power up Correctional practice: Select precision tools from the kit to meet reluctance, anger and resistance
Module 3:
• Where we work - mindsets, methods, infrastructure: Manage the pressure from referrers to “make a person change” ethically with professionalism and clarity
Module 4:
• How we work - rethinking roles: Explore how new ventures, new avenues, and new applications can meet multiple needs across services
ABOUT MIKE CLARK (MSW)
Michael Clark (MSW) is the Director for Center for Strength- Based Strategies, a USA-based training group. His interests lie in the application of strength-based and motivational practices for hard-to-serve, court-mandated populations. Michael served for 16 years as a magistrate and a senior probation officer and has recently completed a two-year position as a secretariat for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria. Mr. Clark is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and is co-author to Miller/Rollnick series book, Motivational Interviewing with Offenders: Engagement, Rehabilitation and Reentry published (2017) published by Guilford Press—with a 2nd edition, pending early 2025
