Since then, he’s dedicated his time to teaching, raising kids, and performing in numerous show bands, mostly locally based in Christchurch. He’s a fan of many different genres from Jazz to Yacht Rock to Soul and R&B and Blues. Brian had the pleasure of the enormous talent that many NZ musicians display humbly at every Gig.

Todd Jones - Bass and Vocals

Todd began playing bass at the age of 18. He performed in various groups, playing both original material and covers. In 1987, he joined the blues-based band The Southern Raiders. The band held two residencies — at The Imperial Hotel and MacKenzies (formerly The Aranui). The Southern Raiders completed a couple of tours around the South Island. It was during his time with this band that Todd honed his performance and playing skills.

He left The Southern Raiders in 1987 and went on to form The Camels, a band focused on original music. The Camels secured an 18-month residency at the old Dux Deluxe and recorded an album showcasing their diverse musical influences.

In 1993, Todd enrolled in the Polytechnic Jazz Course and completed it, earning a degree in Musical Arts. During this time, he played in various jazz ensembles and cover bands, performing at local venues around Christchurch.

After jazz school, he trained as a music teacher. Since then, he has performed in many local bands as a bassist, and recorded both as a session musician and a solo artist. He is currently active in three groups: The Groomsmen, Frictionless, and Lisa Tui.

Now collectively joining forces to form ‘The Groomsmen’ these boys are looking to take the bull by the horns and deliver the goods at every show.
