MEET THE GROOMSMEN
Phil Doublet - Guitar and vocals
is a multi-award-winning artist/musician and is no stranger to the music scene for 4 decades. He has been playing in bands since the tender age of 11 and became sort after as a session player and touring musician, and more recently as a Producer for recording projects from Europe, the U.S.A., Australia and New Zealand. Not to mention, as a solo performer.
Phil is a staunch advocate for original music in Christchurch by starting the Songwriters in the Round shows
Phil is the 2014 NZCMA Country male artist of the year. He has 5 charted albums to his credit. And 8 number 1 singles. Including being nominated for NZ country artist of the year 2 times.
Phil’s latest album, ‘The Journeyman’, was released in 2022 with the #1 single ‘Interstate of Mind’
And most recently 2025 CMAA Gold Guitar finalist for his latest instrumental release, ‘Kill Devil Road’
Brian Lewis - Keys and vocals
Brian has had the privilege of touring briefly in both Indonesia and the UAE for hotel residences between 1999 and 2002. These experiences enriched his musical perspective and allowed him to connect with diverse audiences.
Since then, he’s dedicated his time to teaching, raising kids, and performing in numerous show bands, mostly locally based in Christchurch. He’s a fan of many different genres from Jazz to Yacht Rock to Soul and R&B and Blues. Brian had the pleasure of the enormous talent that many NZ musicians display humbly at every Gig.
Al Olds - Drums and vocals
was hitting bongos at a young age taking after his much admired older brother soaking up the rock eras greatest drummers after having a fun introduction in his youth, started his own journey in Canterbury playing pubs and ski resorts around 1980 a move to Christchurch after he found steady employment in the big smoke developing an affinity with roots and blues after the glitz and hairspray of pop music and overseas contracts in Australia and UAE Wellington and Auckland now lives in Christchurch and more recently recorded some albums of original and blues music his love of music undiminished, continues to enjoy the art of playing drums.
Todd Jones - Bass and Vocals
Todd began playing bass at the age of 18. He performed in various groups, playing both original material and covers. In 1987, he joined the blues-based band The Southern Raiders. The band held two residencies — at The Imperial Hotel and MacKenzies (formerly The Aranui). The Southern Raiders completed a couple of tours around the South Island. It was during his time with this band that Todd honed his performance and playing skills.
He left The Southern Raiders in 1987 and went on to form The Camels, a band focused on original music. The Camels secured an 18-month residency at the old Dux Deluxe and recorded an album showcasing their diverse musical influences.
In 1993, Todd enrolled in the Polytechnic Jazz Course and completed it, earning a degree in Musical Arts. During this time, he played in various jazz ensembles and cover bands, performing at local venues around Christchurch.
After jazz school, he trained as a music teacher. Since then, he has performed in many local bands as a bassist, and recorded both as a session musician and a solo artist. He is currently active in three groups: The Groomsmen, Frictionless, and Lisa Tui.
Now collectively joining forces to form ‘The Groomsmen’ these boys are looking to take the bull by the horns and deliver the goods at every show.
Opening Act: Brett Perkins
American singer songwriter Brett Perkins has traveled to over 40 countries so far, playing more than 5000 concerts since his 1977 L.A. club debut, with songs appearing on 20 commercial releases, including a number 1 Scandinavian single, several Top 10's, Film & TV placements (MTV’s Road Rules, NBC Movie Of The Week, ‘Anna Pihl’), Awards (1st Prize, Great American Song Contest & Australian Song Contest), vocals on albums by Runrig and others, and widespread international airplay.

VENUE: Irish Society Hall, 29 Domain Terrace, Spreydon The hall is situated up the long driveway, directly next to Domain Park, and there is plenty of well-lit off-street parking.
Doors open 7pm. Performance starts at 7.30pm - online bookings will close 2 hours prior to the event start time. After this time only door sales will be available on the night and will be dependant on the number of seats available in line with the Hall capacity.

Please note that Door Sales are CASH ONLY: Tea, coffee, biscuits and cake available during the break, also bar facilities for cold refreshments throughout the night, Eftpos available at the bar for purchases only, no cash-out facility.
