Kārearea Kaitiaki Programme
About
This is a FREE education programme proudly sponsored by Marlborough Lines and is aimed at Year 3/4/5 students. It is a unique experience to learn about kārearea, NZ's only endemic bird of prey, and is based at the Kārearea Falcon Trust, 327 Brancott Road. Our desire is for all year 3 /4/5 ākonga in Marlborough to visit our centre during their schooling.
Our education visit lasts an hour and a half and we can host up to 30 students at a time. We begin with sign-In, health and safety, followed by an educational talk and digital presentation in our education facility 'The Nest', then a walkthrough of our aviary to meet our resident falcons, before having a group photo and returning to The Nest for a quick quiz, and question time.
We use interactive and hands-on approaches to educate children about species and conservation, incorporating age-appropriate activities that allow children to explore and
learn safely.
On the day of your visit please allocate time for a toilet break and morning tea before departing from school. Warm clothing is essential for the short walk to the aviary and for the aviary walkthrough, so too is closed footwear due to uneven surfaces and hazards onsite.
Our Teachers Resource has valuable info and activities: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1IiXSknBrBgBBCosCp3R3_hXMmL9QJIkH?usp=sharing
We can adapt our talks for other levels however we would prefer you to contact us directly to discuss your request. We are a small team with a huge workload and therefore unfortunately we cannot always cater for other requests.
