EVERYDAY POWER: WOMEN’S SAFETY & SELF DEFENCE WORKSHOPS
About
At Queen Margaret College, celebrating and empowering women isn’t something we reserve for one day a year- it’s part of who we are, every day. In that spirit, we are delighted to announce our Everyday Power: Women’s Safety & Self Defence Workshops, running this March in alignment with International Women’s Day (IWD).WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
These sessions are open to all members of our QMC whānau, including:
• Students in Years 7–13

• Alumni, friends, and QMC staff
• Individuals or groups- come on your own, with friends, or as a mother– daughter or family pair!

WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND
We believe every girl and woman deserves to feel confident, safe, and in control– wherever they are. These workshops build real world skills to help participants:
• Navigate public spaces confidently
• Recognise and respond to unsafe or uncomfortable situations
• Protect personal boundaries
• Use effective physical movements for self defence
• Safely exit a situation and seek help
• Strengthen confidence, resilience, and situational awareness.
WHY THESE SESSIONS MATTER
Regular incidents in Wellington and beyond remind us that girls and women still face moments where safety, comfort, or personal boundaries may be compromised - on public transport, on Courtenay Place, at social gatherings, or simply walking home.
While we hope none of us - ever face such moments, being equipped makes a difference: in awareness, in action, and in confidence.
ABOUT THE CLASS
- THREE HOUR DURATION WITH REST BREAKS
These workshops offer a practical, supportive environment where participants learn:
• Verbal strategies
• Body language techniques
• Awareness and prevention tools
• Simple, effective self defence movements
• How to stay safe in real world scenarios
Designed for all ages and abilities, these sessions are safe, empowering, and deeply confidence building.

The workshops are led by Wil and the expert team at Tactical Survival Academy (Krav Maga). Their teaching is grounded in lived experience, real world scenarios, and a deep commitment to empowering girls and women.
