Hunts Course - Learning to Hunt for Beginners
About
The HUNTS course is delivered by NZDA Rakia Branch at a local level where instructors teach the HUNTS syllabus.Trainees learn about hunting in New Zealand’s unique conditions and develop essential bushcraft and shooting skills for use in the outdoors.
HUNTS Modules include:
Ethics, Ecology & Regulations
Equipment & Food
Backcountry Travel
Navigation
Firearms Selection, Safety & Marksmanship
Big Game Animals
Hunting Techniques
Meat, Skins & Trophies
Outdoor Emergencies & Survival Techniques
The practical training consists of 3 weekend sessions, made up of:
TRAINING WEEKEND 1
Location: Ashburton Library & Orari Bridge (or similar river)
Date: Saturday 18th April to Sunday 19th April - 10am to 5pm.
TRAINING WEEKEND 2
Location: Peel Forest (Navigation), Ashburton Rifle Range
Date: Saturday 6th June and Sunday 7th June - 10am to 5pm
HUNT WEEKEND
Location: Ribbonwood Station, Fairlie
Date: Friday 17th July to Sunday 19th July
Graduation Night/Rakaia Club Meeting
- Audio / Visual presentation for branch meeting from instructors and participants
- Certificate Presentations
- Supper
