Christchurch City Council UK Sister Cities Committee, in conjunction with Christ's College, Canterbury invites you to join them in celebrating the 170th anniversary of Christchurch becoming New Zealand's first city.It is 31 July 1856, Queen Victoria signs the Letters Patent granting city status to Christchurch as the seat of the Bishop of Christchurch.
Join esteemed heritage advocate Dame Anna Crighton, the Right Reverend Dr Peter Carrell, Bishop of Christchurch, the Right Reverend Dr David Coles (retired Bishop of Christchurch) and Professor Emeritus Geoffrey Rice, Canterbury University as they share their insights into this historic moment in the creation of Christchurch: a settlement of learning and godliness.
The evening will begin with refreshments in the heritage listed Christ's College Dining Hall followed by a presentation in the College Chapel (we will put the heating on!)
