Open Farm Sunday 2024

Open Farm Sunday 2024

About

The whole family is welcome at this FREE event. Come and find out how we farm alongside nature, how we are improving the health of our soil health and trying to prevent flooding in the village. Explore our machinery, find out about bats, owls and invertebrates, have a go at woodworking or enjoy a guided farm walk.

We will be running two sessions throughout the day: 10am - 1pm and 1pm-4pm. Session times are a rough indicator of timings, but it's a relaxed event and you can arrive when you like. However, if you would like to join a farm walk, then please arrive in time to join departures from the farmyard at either 11am or 2pm depending on which session you have booked.

The walk is about 3km, approx. 1.5hr, with regular stops and discussions about our crops, regenerative and organic farming practices, woodland and wildlife. It will take you to areas of the farm not usually open to the public, with fantastic views of Scolt Head Island and Brancaster Harbour. We have found this walk is most appropriate for ages 12+, but this is at your discretion depending on your child’s interest in farming and wildlife, and their capacity for a good walk.

Members of the Iceni Bird Monitoring Group, who regularly record on the farm, will be joining us on the walk to give an insight into our birdlife. Please note bird activity is likely to be greater in the morning session than the afternoon, and will always be dependent on weather conditions. They also have a seperate session at 9am to demonstrate bird ringing.

As well as the walk, there will be lots of activities in the farmyard, including:

  • interactive display from Norfolk Rivers Trust
  • fun activities from the Norfolk & Norwich Bat Group
  • owl pellet dissection
  • green woodworking demonstration
  • machinery to explore, including combine and tractor
  • display on regenerative farming practices

And more to be confirmed

The event is free, but please book ahead so we can plan appropriately.

Please come suitably dressed for the weather, with decent shoes/boots for walking as there will be some dirt tracks and uneven ground.

Dogs are welcome if kept on a lead at all times.

The guided farm walk is on level ground with a gentle uphill climb. Please be aware that we will be walking on fields and crossing field boundaries; this walk may not be suitable for wheelchair users. Please email us with any queries.
