Gigrin Farm, famous for its Red Kite Feeding, attracts visitors from around the world. Located half a mile from Rhayader, in Mid-Wales, hundreds of Red Kites feed here every day. It’s a breath-taking spectacle and is the best place in the UK to see and photograph 100s of wild Red Kites (including rare leucistic Red Kites).
This family run centre is set in the beautiful countryside of Mid-Wales, overlooking both the Wye and Elan valleys. The Red Kites are fed once daily at 2pm (from the last Sunday in October to the last Saturday in March GMT) and 3pm (from the last Sunday in March to the last Saturday in October BST). The number of Kites being fed varies dependent upon the time of year from around 300 in the summer to 500 in the colder months. Rare leucistic (white) Red Kites frequently visit the farm.
A bird-watchers’ paradise, appealing to families, educational groups and professional photographers/film-makers alike. Facilities include covered standard hides (hides 2, 3 & 5 have ramp access), an outdoor viewing area, and specialist photographic hides (please see the website for more information). The standard hides(1-5) are all located on the perimeter of the feeding field and all offer an equal experience.
There is a coffee shop (cakes, hot and cold drinks, ice-creams), gift shop, pic-nic site, and a way-marked farm walk, with on-site car-parking and toilet facilities (including disabled facilities).
Well behaved dogs are welcome on the farm but are not permitted in the coffee shop, gift shop, Hide 5, and the specialist photographic hides. They must be kept on a short lead and be under adult control at all times. We allow one dog per adult free of charge with any additional dogs being charged for at £5 per dog payable on arrival at the farm.
The Red Kites are fed once each day at 3pm (GMT + 1) in the Summer and 2pm (GMT) in the Winter. The Centre opens at 12.30pm and closes at 5pm. Please note there is no access onto the farm until 12.30pm when the Kite Centre opens.
Open every day during half terms and Easter/half-term school holidays (please check the booking calendar as different regions have different school closures). August open daily.
