Speaker: Saskia Jones-Perrott, nee Joyner (GH 1988-90)

Topic: 'The changing world of work – a career in professional services through Covid and beyond!'

After leaving Blundell’s in 1990 Saskia spent 6 years at Medical School in Oxford and London, then embarking on a career initially in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and then in Respiratory Medicine. Working in 13 hospitals over an 11-year period, she became a Consultant in Respiratory and Acute General medicine in 2007 in Shrewsbury.

She led the Lung Cancer service for 5 years and then concentrated on infectious diseases and Tuberculosis as well as Medical Education and as Deputy Divisional Medical Director on Junior doctor development and support. She has been Student Welfare Officer for Medical Students from Keele Medical School since 2007.

Then in 2020 came the COVID pandemic which was to change the working lives of all, but especially those clinicians working in Respiratory and Intensive Care Medicine. In June 2020 Saskia took over as Divisional Medical Director: Saskia says: “Almost overnight our working world changed. Never have we seen such a team effort to support and treat patients outside ITU and never have we seen such rapid drug trials resulting in improvements in patient care”
