About

The Geldart Jazz Sessions is a monthly concert hosted by locally-grown guitar and bass player Chris Diamand, featuring new high-profile guests each month. Come along for uplifting evening of great music played by some of the finest musicians around.

The 23rd November will replace the usual last Sunday session, and is a Cambridge Jazz Festival special, featuring the incredible George Garford on sax, Chris Montague on guitar, Josh Walker-Martin on drums, and Chris Diamand on the bass.

Chris Montague is widely recognised for his skills as a guitarist and composer. As a founder member of Troyka, he has garnered a reputation for his distinctive approach to the guitar. Chris’ trio record Warmer Than Blood featuring Kit Downes on piano and bassist Ruth Goller was released to critical acclaim in 2020.

Chris was born in Gateshead, and has worked with Troyka, Squarepusher, Benny Greb’s Moving Parts, Janek Gwizdala, Monocled Man, Charlie Watts, Django Bates, Shinya Fukumori, BJ Cole, Colin Town’s Blue Touch Paper, Nick Smart’s Trogon and Trish Clowes’ Tangent. As a composer, Chris has received commissions from Royal Academy of Music Big Band, Threads Orchestra, EFG London Jazz Festival and several large guitar ensemble pieces for Hull and London Jazz Festivals. Chris was a prize-winning finalist in the Jazz Composer category by the Arts Foundation, an organisation which has been recognising and supporting artists of all disciplines for the past 25 years.

George Garford is a saxophonist, composer and improviser active in the UK's intersecting contemporary jazz & improvised music scenes. Hailing from Cambridgeshire, and based in London since 2017, Garford has established himself as a prolific creative collaborator. Known for his distinct sound on the alto, Garford’s unique sensibility compliments a variety of ensembles and projects.

Garford leads IDEASTHESIA, the contemporary jazz quintet that explores his original material. He also writes & plays with the post-fusion group dreamscapes & co-leads free-improvising quartet let forever be delayed.
