TKAT Roundtable:SEN Adaptive Provision in Foundation Subject

The round table will explore adaptive teaching across KS1 and KS2 foundation subjects, drawing on the principle that “adapting teaching in a responsive way, including by providing targeted support to pupils who are struggling, is likely to increase pupil success.” Discussion will focus on how teachers can maintain high expectations for all pupils while adjusting approaches based on prior knowledge, misconceptions and barriers to learning. Leaders will consider how adaptive teaching can be achieved without excessive workload or unnecessary differentiation, using formative assessment and collaboration with expert colleagues (e.g., SENDCos) to inform responsive decisions. The session will emphasise practical strategies such as scaffolding, flexible grouping and effective use of classroom dialogue -that enable all pupils to access and succeed across foundation subjects.
