LUX AETERNA
Morten Lauridsen - Lux Aeterna
Morten Lauridsen - Sure on this shining night
Beethoven - Symphony No. 6 in F major, 'Pastoral'
Haydn - Insanae et vanae curae
St Mary's Church Adult Choir
Orchestra of the Restoration
Peter Davis (conductor)
Join us in the evocative surroundings of St Mary's Church as its Adult Choir performs two acclaimed and beautiful choral works by American composer, Morten Lauridsen. His rich and intensely moving 'Lux Aeterna' is a non-liturgical requiem for choir and chamber orchestra, with an unaccompanied setting of the motet 'O nata lux' at its heart. Lauridsen's beautiful and lyrical setting of 'Sure on this shining night' contrasts with a stormy Haydn motet that opens our concert.
The Orchestra of the Restoration takes centre stage to perform Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony, a ground-breaking and programmatic symphony which celebrates the composer's love of nature.
