We are delighted to welcome Sir Hamid Patel CBE, Chief Executive of Star Academies to Lancaster University Management School.Sir Hamid Patel CBE has led Star Academies since its inception, shaping it into one of the country’s most successful and respected multi-academy trusts. Guided by his conviction that every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed—regardless of background—he has devoted his career to transforming education in disadvantaged communities and enhancing social mobility.
Under his leadership, Star Academies has developed a diverse network of primary and secondary schools across the country. The Trust is a values-based organisation committed to fostering excellence, leadership and service in every learner. Its mission is to raise aspirations and improve life chances for children and young people, enabling them to thrive at the highest levels of education, employment and the professions.
As one of the UK’s leading education providers, Star Academies also works closely with Lancaster University through the formal partnership programme Lancaster Link. This initiative guarantees conditional offers or interview invitations for students at eligible Star Academies schools who apply to Lancaster University before the UCAS Equal Consideration deadline. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to widening participation and creating opportunities for students from all backgrounds.
Star Academies also has a strong regional presence, with several schools across the North West, including a designated Teaching School Hub serving Blackpool, Lancaster, Preston and Wyre. Together, the University and Star Academies collaborate on outreach and engagement initiatives that support educational progression and social mobility in our local communities.
Beyond his work with Star Academies, Sir Hamid Patel CBE influences national education policy through a number of senior roles, including Senior Board Member at Ofsted, Vice Chair of the National Institute of Teaching, Chair of the Confederation of School Trusts and Chair of the Education Honours Committee. He was awarded a CBE in 2015 and knighted in 2021 for his outstanding service to education.
