Winter Lunch Wednesday 11th March 2026

Speaker: Rachel Palmer (GH 1990-92)
Topic: 'When the pager rings: Inside the life of an RNLI volunteer'
Hear from Rachel Palmer, RNLI volunteer crew member and gain an insight into life on the frontline of the RNLI as a woman in a role where women are still under-represented. Drawing on personal experience, the talk explores what it really means to answer a shout: the training, teamwork, decision-making, and conditions that RNLI crews face when people’s lives are at risk. The talk also reflects on Rachel's personal motivation for joining the RNLI, the variety of shouts crews respond to, and the realities of volunteering alongside everyday life.
