Voices With Eight Sides (SOLD OUT)
About
The Friends of Heptonstall Chapel and Sunday school are proud to present Under the Bridge Choir.Hebden Bridge-based choir ‘Under The Bridge’, though habitually practicing outdoors in all weathers, are invited indoors to sing from the upstairs gallery in Heptonstall's historic Octagonal Chapel. Expect winter songs, ancient carols and heartfelt folk, all performed with care, craft, and connection in a unique setting. UTB is a collective of 40 women, singing under the direction of Liz Powers, usually found *under a bridge*.
All songs in their repertoire have been prepared and rehearsed in the woods, in the dark, under the bridge. The Choir’s name harks back to the pandemic, when singing under a roof was prohibited, so Liz took her singers outside, to sing under a resonant railway bridge in the woods. Despite the lifting of restrictions, the atmospheric bridge with its beautiful acoustics has kept them returning week after week, all year round.
Come and join UTB indoors at the Octagonal Chapel for a real treat with the choir performing in a single row around the gallery.
Supporting the choir is a supergroup of local artists Lizzey Ross, Scott "Hutch" Hutchinson and Lloyd Degler, forming a trio for one night only to perform new arrangements of their original material with extra harmonies and instrumentation. Folk and soul vibes.
Doors open at 6.30 pm. Tickets are £8 and available in advance from: https://www.trybooking.com/uk/FQUW
Parking
********
There is a free public car park with an entrance right next to Towngate Tea Room, but spaces are limited. Otherwise there is free parking (with suggested donation) offered by Heptonstall Social and Bowling, just 10 minutes walk away, at the other side of the village.
Access
*******
Access can be gained one of two ways. The first is the easiest, especially in winter weather; I would not advise the second unless you are quite sure-footed!
1) Turn on to Northgate from Towngate (in front of The Cross Inn). You will eventually see an old archway on your left and a small cobbled lane descending to your right. Take this right turn and go through the gate close by, ahead, on the LEFT side. The steps lead you down to the chapel.
2) There is a path at the far end of the public car park near the café, on the left. Simply follow that path, turn left up the snicket, then turn left through the archway. The chapel is on your right.
Accessibility
*************
We regret that, whilst the Friends of the Chapel and Sunday School are making efforts to modernise the chapel, its age and location currently represent a significant obstacle to wheelchair access.
