About
Step beneath the South Downs and into one of the most important hidden military command centres of the Second World War.
About the Experience
Descend beneath the South Downs and explore the original Fort Southwick tunnels, part of the underground headquarters used during the planning and execution of D-Day.
Hidden beneath the landscape and rarely accessible to the public, these tunnels once formed a vital part of the Allied command network. During the final preparations for the Normandy landings, officers and planners worked within these passages as they coordinated the largest amphibious invasion in history.
Led by knowledgeable guides, this tour takes you through the atmospheric corridors of the underground complex while revealing how the tunnels functioned during wartime, the strategic decisions made here, and the human stories behind the pressure and secrecy of command beneath the surface.
This is a rare opportunity to experience a preserved piece of Britain’s wartime infrastructure and understand the crucial role Fort Southwick played in the events of June 1944.
Please Note
Tickets are strictly limited and often sell out in advance.
The experience includes uneven ground, low lighting, and confined spaces.
