Norwich High School for Girls students, alumnae, parents, staff and guests join together to perform choral music and solo instrumental works, featuring pieces by Whitacre, Rutter, Puccini, Mozart, Rachmaninov and Chaminade. In a contemporary twist, the concert will also include a vibrant arrangement of Coldplay’s A Sky Full of Stars.Whitacre’s Sing Gently
A modern masterpiece of choral writing. Whitacre, one of today’s most celebrated composers, wrote this piece during the global pandemic as a message of hope and unity. Its shimmering harmonies and tender text invite us to reflect on the power of community and kindness.
Rutter’s Magnificat
Rutter, one of the most influential choral composers of our time, sets the traditional Latin text of the Magnificat—Mary’s song of praise from the Gospel of Luke—in a work infused with rhythmic vitality, lush harmonies and moments of profound serenity. From the exuberant opening to the tender Esurientes, this piece is a true celebration of life and faith – a fitting climax to our evening.
Doors open at 6.45pm for a 7.30pm start.
The evening is scheduled to conclude at 9.30pm.
