Understanding the Impact of Suicide Training with ABF (SOLD OUT)
Module 1 - Understanding the Impact of Suicide or Suspected Suicide
This module is aimed at anyone who is likely to come into contact with people affected by suicide or suspected suicide, such as those from community groups and third sector organisations through to professional agencies.
The aim of this module is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of the potential impact of suicide or suspected suicide on individuals, groups, and communities, the importance of appropriate responses, and how those affected may be able to access effective support and/or resources.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the prevalence of suicide or suspected suicide in Wales
- Understand the impact of suicide or suspected suicide
- Understand the importance of appropriate responses
This training focuses on understanding the impact on the those that have lost someone to suicide or suspected suicide. During the session, we will explore the complex feelings and emotions experienced by those bereaved, as well as the wider impact that a suicide can have on families, friends, colleagues and communities.
We’ll also look at how we can respond in a compassionate and supportive way to someone who may be grieving in this way, helping build confidence in having sensitive conversations and offering appropriate support.
Who is this training for?
Participants must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
This is due to the sensitive nature of the content and the level of personal and/or professional experience expected to engage meaningfully and safely with the material.
Participants should ideally have:
- Experience of working with or supporting people impacted by suicide or suspected suicide
- Basic understanding and knowledge around suicide and prevention
- Appropriate arrangements in place to support their own wellbeing, such as access to supervision, debriefing, peer support or self-care plans

These modules do not qualify participants as professional counsellors and do not equip them to provide therapeutic support to bereaved individuals. The training is designed to enhance understanding and awareness, not to replace professional counselling or mental health services.

Timings:
09:30am – 4:00pm
Delivery Time: 6 hours
Independent Study: 3 hours recommended, to include pre-reading, reflection, or follow-up learning activities
- Arrival from 09:15am for registration and tea/coffee
- Please be ready to start by 09:30am
- 30-minute break for lunch
- Tea, coffee and light refreshments provided
- Please bring your own lunch
- 4:00pm finish
