Starting February 23rd Downside School warmly invites pupils for additional GCSE tuition to students in the local community. Whether you need a confidence boost or extra exam practice, our experienced teachers are here to help. Sessions run Monday - Thursday 17.10-18.10 in English, Chemistry, Spanish, French, Physics, Mathematics. (Minimum of 3 pupils required for classes to run)This GCSE English Booster course is led by Ms. R Shaw, a highly experienced English specialist with 30 years of teaching experience (celebrating this June).
Ms. Shaw holds a BA (Hons) and a Master’s degree, with her postgraduate dissertation focusing on Virginia Woolf. She also holds a PGCE in English and a CELTA, giving her a strong foundation in both academic English and language instruction.
She has taught GCSE English across multiple exam boards, including AQA and Pearson Edexcel, as well as A Level English (OCR). Her teaching career spans a wide range of leading UK and international schools and colleges, including The Blue School (Wells), Strode College, Millfield Senior (Street), United World College Singapore, and Rugby School Thailand, consistently achieving strong student outcomes.
Ms. Shaw’s particular specialism is exam technique, with a focused expertise in GCSE English Language Papers 1 and 2 for both AQA and Pearson Edexcel. This course will place strong emphasis on understanding exam demands, structuring high-scoring responses, and building confidence under exam conditions.
The sessions are designed to be targeted, supportive, and practical, helping students refine their technique and maximise performance in the final examinations.
