Masculinity, Men’s Health and End-of-Life Care Symposium
About
Men’s health and wellbeing are shaped by powerful social structures and cultural norms surrounding masculinity. Understanding how masculinity and intersecting social identities shape experiences of death, dying, and care remains a neglected area within the sociology of health and illness.This symposium will promote interdisciplinary dialogue between sociology, gender studies, and palliative care to advance men’s health.
Speakers include:
• Dr Caroline Flurey, Associate Professor of Men's Health and Long Term Conditions, Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences, University of West of England, Bristol - Expert in men’s health and long-term conditions.
• Dr Yakubu Salifu, Lecturer in Palliative Care, Lancaster University – Men’s health, equity, inclusion, and palliative care in resource-limited settings.
• Professor Veronika Koller, Professor of Discourse Studies, Lancaster University – (tbc)
• Professor Mark Limmer, Division of Health Research, Lancaster University - Expert in public health, youth, and gender studies
• Dr Olufikayo Bamidele, NIHR Advanced Fellow Hull York Medical School, University of Hull - Expert in public health, cancer inequalities, gender-ethnic intersectionality
• Dr Maddy French, Senior Research Fellow in Palliative Care (Sue Ryder), Division of Health Research, Lancaster University - Expert in equity-focused palliative care research
