Allegri Singers - Miserere - Music for Passiontide
About
The Allegri Singers present sacred music for Passiontide, featuring penitential masterpieces from the late Renaissance and early Baroque. The first half journeys from Old Testament lament through works by Lotti, Lassus, Gesualdo, Monteverdi, and Victoria, culminating in Allegri's sublime Miserere—once forbidden outside the Sistine Chapel. After the interval, Gounod's profoundly moving Les Sept Paroles de Nostre Seigneur Jésus Christ Sur La Croix brings us to the foot of the cross through operatic drama and spiritual contemplation.
