NTWFS - Talk - The Battle of Shaiba, April 1915
About
April 1915 is now best known for the Allied landing at Gallipoli. Two weeks prior to the landings however, a British Empire force repulsed an Ottoman assault just outside Basra. The Battle of Shaiba is not well known today but it was a crucial battle as the Ottomans looked to regain the initiative and push Indian Expeditionary Force D out of Lower Mesopotamia. What is more, it was a close run battle which included Indian cavalry charges, infantry fighting amongst date groves and a Victoria Cross.Date
