Celebrity Recital - Seb Hill and Will Harmer
About
We are delighted to welcome back former student Seb Hill, now a fast-rising young British tenor, for an evening of richly expressive song. Joined by the outstanding pianist Will Harmer, Seb presents a thoughtfully curated programme exploring poetry, storytelling and the natural world through German and English art song. The recital opens with Schumann’s Liederkreis Op. 24, a cycle of restless lyricism and emotional intensity, before moving to Britten’s Winter Words - Hardy settings of haunting clarity and dramatic insight. A group of Schubert songs completes the programme, ranging from the playful brilliance of Fischerweise to the darker, more psychological waters of Der Fischer, alongside Auf der Brück and the rarely heard Blumen Schmerz.
Since leaving us, Seb has gone on to establish himself as an exciting young talent. A graduate of Magdalen College, Oxford, he is currently studying on the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and has been recognised with major awards including the London Bach Society Competition and the Patricia Routledge English Song Competition. He appears regularly with leading ensembles and festivals, and is especially admired for his communicative artistry and textual sensitivity - qualities very much at the heart of this programme.
This concert offers a wonderful chance to hear a former student flourishing at the beginning of an impressive professional career, in music ideally suited to his voice and musical imagination.
