Trinity Jazz Club with the Joe Pettitt Trio
About
Once a term Trinity’s Sixth Form Centre is transformed into a real jazz club. We welcome some of the finest musicians from the British jazz scene to perform alongside our own amazing students; think Ronnie Scott’s comes to Croydon! For the Summer Term we welcome our own Head of Jazz, Rock & Pop, Joe Pettitt with his new trio, featuring pianist Jim Watson (Manu Katché, Incognito, Guy Barker, BBC Big Band) and drummer George Double (John Etheridge, Dame Shirley Bassey, Jack Jones, Art Themen, Paul Jones).
One of Britain’s most in-demand bassists, Joe has for many years had two parallel music careers…
As a sideman, Joe has worked and collaborated with all manner of artists, from Curtis Stigers, Clare Teal, The Puppini Sisters and Joe Stilgoe through to the Ronnie Scott’s Big Band, John Wilson Orchestra, Pete Long, Simon Spillett and Denny Ilett. As a session player, Joe has toured/recorded with Michael Bublé, Burt Bacharach, Noel Gallagher, Joss Stone, Rick Astley, Tony Christie and Michael Feinstein.
However, Joe is probably best known as leader of the LP Swing Orchestra for over 15 years. In this role he has presented and produced shows for Sky TV, including a Christmas Special with Mica Paris. He’s recorded and streamed live from Abbey Road Studios as well as directing countless performances around Britain and beyond. Annual dates at Cadogan Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and Blackpool Tower Ballroom plus frequent plays on BBC Radio 2, presenting on JazzFM and a number 1 in the iTunes Jazz Chart have kept him very busy!
The Joe Pettitt Trio draws these two worlds together. One of the most experienced bandleaders around, Joe is now enjoying the creative freedom of the small band with his first love; the double bass.
Trinity Jazz Collective will play a support set to kick the evening off and Trinity musicians will sit-in with the JP3 throughout the evening.
A fully licensed bar along with light refreshments will be in operation throughout the night.
Doors open 6.30pm.
