Step into the world of law, order, and everyday life in historic Lancashire through the remarkable records of the Quarter Sessions. Although best known as courts of justice, Quarter Sessions also played a vital role in local administration and community life.This engaging workshop will explore a fascinating range of original records, including petitions, bonds, taxation documents, rioting and disorder. Through these sources, you will uncover stories of crime, conflict, poverty, and community life, while gaining insight into how local people experienced justice and government in the past.
Led by archivist Kathryn Newman, the session offers a unique opportunity to work hands-on with original archive material and discover the rich and sometimes surprising stories preserved within the collections of Lancashire Archives.
Members free of charge. Visitors £5.
