Silk Mill and Winchester Cathedral in Hampshire
About
Please join us for a very interesting day out by coach to visit the Silk Mill and Winchester Cathedral in Hampshire on Tuesday 15th SeptemberWe will visit the Whitchurch Silk Mill, a gem of industrial heritage in rural Hampshire. Built in 1815, it is now a working museum and is the oldest Silk Mill in the UK still weaving silk in its original building.
A small team of highly skilled weavers wind, warp and weave beautiful artisan cloth using traditional methods and historic machines to keep these critically endangered skills alive.
On arrival we will have coffee/tea etc then our guide will take us on a tour lasting about an hour. We will learn about the history of the mill, visit the recently refurbished waterwheel and see the Victorian machinery used to produce our silk and enjoy the current exhibition.
After the tour we will enjoy a sandwich lunch (included) and have time to visit their shop selling silk products and gifts!
In the afternoon we will then continue to Winchester Cathedral where we will enjoy the Wild! Festival of Flowers and Nature which takes place only once every 4 years! We will see the vibrant celebration of flowers of nature inspired by the beauty and diversity of our natural surroundings.
Hundreds of local floral artists will transform this spectacular building, creating an immersive experience inviting visitors to wander through the breathtaking, large scale floral installations
This should make a great ending to our day.
Cost of the day including refreshments and coach is £78
We only have 29 tickets, so please book early
Please be aware there will be a 10 min walk to the Cathedral from our coach as the whole area is pedestrianised
