About
Kintsugi, which literally translates as ‘golden joinery,’ celebrates the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi—embracing imperfections as part of an object’s unique story where flaws are something to be cherished and not hidden.On this day course students will have the chance to experience the art of restoration kintsugi which fuses the techniques used in traditional kintsugi with modern methods to produce stunning results. In the workshop, you will be given ceramic bowl and your own toolbox for use on the day which will contain all the materials and items you need. You will be shown how to break it safely and then taught step by step how to repair the broken pieces to create a wonderful new masterpiece using 24 carat gold leaf to gild the repair. You will leave the workshop with confidence to repair other pieces of broken ceramics to make them even more beautiful.
