About

Join tutors from the Royal School of Needlework (RSN) for an immersive two-day embroidery workshop inspired by the stained-glass windows housed within the Winchester College Treasury.

This special course marks the first collaboration between the RSN and Winchester College, bringing together historic design inspiration and the highest standards of hand embroidery tuition.

Working closely with expert RSN tutors, you will begin by learning how to transfer your design onto fabric using the traditional prick-and-pounce method. Through guided demonstrations and practical tuition, you will explore how to handle fine silks, control stitch tension and create smooth, directional stitching. You will also develop an understanding of how to correctly prepare and manage silk threads before stitching.

RSN tutors will then introduce metal thread embellishment using traditional Goldwork outlining techniques with a contemporary twist. Using passing thread and purls, you will follow and reinterpret the flowing shapes and decorative lines inspired by the stained-glass windows, creating your own unique embroidered piece.

This course offers a rare opportunity to explore traditional RSN techniques within the unique historic setting of Winchester College.

The cost of this two-day course is £275. All equipment is included.
