Sedbergh Summits offers a program of guided walks in the tranquillity of the Howgill Fells. Whether you want to enjoy a bracing walk along the windswept summits, admire England's highest above ground waterfall or take a gentler path alongside the River Rawthey, we have guided walks to suit everyone. We supply qualified and experienced mountain leaders to help you plan your day and free you of the responsibility for forecasting the weather, planning and navigating an appropriate route for you and your group, sharing information about the history, heritage, geology, flora and fauna of the area and taking the best path.
GUIDED WALKS IN THE HOWGILLS WITH LOCAL & QUALIFIED MOUNTAIN LEADERS
Saturday 10 October 2026–‘Wainwright & Waterfall’ - 6 miles / 4 hours - £30pp. We ascend Arant Haw, then to Cautley Spout, England's highest above ground waterfall. We descend and return to Sedbergh via Wainwright's 'A Pennine Journey'. Meet at the Black Bull Sedbergh,10.30am, finish 3.30-4pm.
Saturday 24 October 2026–‘The Calf & the Sleepy Elephants’ - 8 miles / 5 hours - £35pp. We follow the 'sleepy elephants' to the Calf (676m) the highest fell in the Howgills before returning to Sedbergh via a lower route. Meet at the Black Bull Sedbergh, 10.30am, finish 3.30-4pm
Thursday 5th November 2026 – ‘Cumbria Dark Skies Walk’ – 3 miles / 2 hours - £10pp Bring a torch with a red filter and your favourite star gazing app or chart as we ascend Winder to gaze at the stars during Cumbria Dark Skies week. Meet at the Black Bull Sedbergh, 6.30pm, finish by 9pm
Saturday 19 December 2026 – ‘Wild Boar Fell from Aisgill’ - 8 miles / 5 hours - £35pp Meet 10.30am at Aisgill layby W3W///differ.risks.rifled. A high moorland walk from the Eden Valley, ascending through an impressive lime stone gorge onto Wild Boar Fell then returning via Swarth Fell.

NAVIGATION ESSENTIALS FOR FELL WALKERS - 1 day practical course
Looking for some instruction and coaching to brush up your navigation and hill skills ? This autumn we will also be offering practical navigation courses in map reading and using a compass so that you can explore the area yourselves with the skills and confidence to follow your own path. This course will be run by an acredited National Navigation Award Scheme Tutor and cover both the theory and practical application of navigating in upland areas, including reading a map, route planning, taking a bearing, navigation strategies during the day and integrating a navigation app into your approach.
Saturday 5 December 2026 – ‘Navigation Essentials for Fellwalkers’ – 3 miles / 5 hours - £60pp Meet 10.30am at the Black Bull Inn (LA10 5BL). This practical 'hands on' course will teach the use of a map and compass, navigation strategies and the pros and cons of navigation apps.
