About

This is one of the most joyful days in the Jewish calendar! We wave flags, we dance around the synagogue and we eat as many sweets as we can! The service commences at 6pm, it will be followed at 7.15pm with a communal supper (to which you are invited to bring a non-meat dish to share) and will end whenever you've eaten enough! This is one not to miss! IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO ATTEND, PLEASE BRING PHOTO ID FOR SECURITY PURPOSES. Thank you.

The diarist Samuel Pepys' first and only visit to a synagogue was on Simchat Torah in 1663. This is how he described it: '...But, Lord! to see the disorder, laughing, sporting, and no attention, but confusion in all their service, more like brutes than people knowing the true God, would make a man forswear ever seeing them more and indeed I never did see so much, or could have imagined there had been any religion in the whole world so absurdly performed as this.'

That's the standard that we shall try to match on Friday 2nd October! Not to be missed!
